Seat of Jasper County, established in late 1800s and named for Sgt. William Jasper, hero of American Revolution. Area terrain ranges from hilly to level, 85 percent forested by pines and hardwoods.
Jasper's historic town square features the courthouse built in 1889, two bed & breakfasts, art galleries, outdoor art sculptures, antique shops, murals, and the old county jail where county archives are housed. Sandy Creek Park, downtown, features children's playground equipment, fishing ponds, walking trail, picnic areas, basketball courts, and a pavilion over the water.
Annual events include Azalea Festival in Mar., Air Show in Apr., Fourth of July Celebration, Fall Festival in Oct., Christmas Open House in Dec.
